With the modern yoga-craze, everyone is jumping head-long into yoga and trying to get as many students as possible. However, this modern regime is based solely on chiropractic yoga, dubbed as ‘traditional’.
Historically, few people were actually suited for the classical Hatha-Yoga, which was interwoven with Ayurveda and Tantra to develop super-warriors such as the Gurkhas and not for lay people. These poses and postures (asanas) for vyayama or exercise were practiced with rigorous harsh and abrasive practices not suitable for one and all, but for more muscular and specifically militant males.
Yet, yoga has many forms and not all of these forms involved exercises. Even the meditative and mantra aspects of yoga demand specifics as per a person’s age, their sex, geographical climate as well as their Ayurvedic constitution, disease and digestive ability and above all, Ayurvedic psychology. No mantra, meditation, pranayama (breathing technique), nor asana (posture) is a panacea for any disease, nor generic for anyone, as each have specific energetics as per Ayurveda and tradition.
As a Yoga and Ayurveda teacher as well as Vedic Astrologer, Vedic teacher and Ayurvedic Practitioner, my aim is to help people discover the ancient tradition as it is, not have it fed to them by this and that yoga school or so-called ‘type’ of misappropriated yoga that had been distorted in India to suit westerners and aimed at money. I wish people to practice what yoga suits them, for their body, their mind and their disorder.
